Does The “don’t ask don’t tell” Policy Really Need Removal?
After Obama announced that he wants to eliminate the “don’t ask don’t tell” military policy which protects gays that are in the United States military from being discriminated against, many people have been voicing their opinions about it. Obama wants to remove the policy so that gays can be openly gay while severing in the military. While most would agree that if you are given the right to fight and die for your country then you should also be given the right to be open about you’re sexual preference, removing the policy could present many unwanted problems in the U.S military. The main case would be causing straight soldiers to feel uncomfortable which could lead to many different negative things. I personally think the “don’t ask don’t tell” should stay in place and removing it wouldn’t bring good but only bad things to the army. Although we are living in a new age of time many people still do discriminate against gays and I think the "don't ask don't tell" helps protect gays and allowing them to be openly gay could cause problems in their life while serving in the military. Most Republicans in the senate are for the bill. Only time will tell whether the policy will stand or be removed.
