A stealing of just 2.50 pounds worth of cheese can be a fatal crime and if caught can take you behind bars for a period that can extend more than eight years. Recently a man was sentenced to more than eight years of imprisonment for stealing of cheese worth of 2.50 pounds. Robert Ferguson was the unlucky thief who was severely punished for his sin. Robert, the thief, got a history of thirteen convictions in his name till now. In addition, Robert has spent more than 22 years of the last 27 years of his life in the prison. In the year 1994, Robert Ferguson was said of breaking the California’s three strikes law.
The prosecutors of the case firstly were opting for a life imprisonment for the convict of theft of cheese then later they withdrew it after reviewing a psychological report which apparently convinced them that life in jail was not warranted.
Monica Brushia was the lawyer of the convict, Robert Ferguson. She argued that such petty charges did not attract so heavy charges usually for anyone. She said that the theft was of only a pack of cheese of 2.50 pounds and thus such a crime cannot by any chance attract such a sentence that can extend up to or more than eight years.
Robert Freguson has already spent 825 days in jail and now awaits trial. He has to serve half of this sentence of eight years of imprisonment and then will be eligible for a parole in about three years.
